Arapaho Sounds
Unlike the English alphabet, the writing system for Arapaho is very straightforward. It is what linguists refer to as a "phonetic alphabet," meaning that each letter in the writing system basically corresponds to a single sound. Note that Arapaho has a pitch accent system (similar to the stress system in English, except the pitch of the vowel is raised, rather than pronouncing the vowel with greater volume or intensity). Native speakers do not put in pitch accent marks when they write, but to help with pronunciation, we use pitch accent marks in certain parts of this website.
