Pines and the Arapaho

In addition to the use of lodgepole pines for tipi poles, Ponderosa Pine sap was used as chewing gum. In addition, hardened bits of the sap were placed inside whistles in order to produce the whistling sound. Limber Pine cones were thrown onto fires, and the seeds eaten once they had been roasted.
