Comparative Arabic and Semitic Syntax and Morphology

Description:
This course provides an overview of a number of topics in comparative Arabic and Semitic Syntax and Morphology. Topics to be surveyed include clause structure, agreement, word order, subjects, Case, negation, copular constructions, unbounded dependencies, and how features are realized within a system that displays both concatenative and non-concatenative morphology. The implications of such patterns and the variation they display across Arabic dialects and Semitic languages on current theoretical approaches will also be discussed.
