Affiliates
Non-students -- from community members to linguistic professionals -- are welcome to attend the Institute as Affiliates. As an Affiliate, you will have the same access to the internet and UCB library resources as students, as well as other tools necessary to attend classes. Affiliates will be housed in Williams Village two-bedroom apartments.
Affiliates pay an Affiliate fee, which is a primary source of funding for student fellowships. It will be the same as the student registration fee. Affiliates supported by companies are Corporate Affiliates; those supported through non-profit higher education institution funds, or private funds, are Individual Affiliates.
To qualify as an Affiliate, you will be required to provide the following information:
1. Current employer
2. Most recent degree and school, and the dates of the program
You will also need to provide a 'statement' that you are not currently, or about to be, enrolled in a degree program. You will be disqualified as an Affiliate (and will be required to enroll as a student) if you plan to be in a degree program during the 2011 calendar year.
F.A.Q.
1. What's covered by the optional fees?
The breakdown of what is covered by the optional fees is as follows: |
Campus recreation center pass |
Each affiliate holding this pass will have unlimited
access to all of the facilities offered by the Recreation Center. |
Health center pass |
Each affiliate holding this pass will receive emergency treatment with co-payment at
Wardenburg Health Center on campus. |
Bus pass |
With this fee, an affilate will receive the student bus pass sticker. With this sticker affixed to the BuffOne card, an affilate ride for free on regional and local buses and on the AB "Skyride" bus to Denver International Airport. This bus pass is valid from June 1, 2011 through August 31, 2011. |
Bike pass |
In addition, the ECO pass sticker entitles an affiliate to free bicycle rental on campus. Affiliates simply present the Buff One card and ECO pass at the bike rental station, located in the black kiosk just east of the University Memorial Center (UMC) among the bike racks between the Fine Arts building and Euclid AutoPark. |
Campus Cash option |
Through the Campus Cash program, you may use a credit card to add cash to your Buff One card. This will enable you to use the Buff One card as a debit card for small-dollar campus transactions, e.g., printing in computer labs, photocopying at campus photocopy centers, doing laundry at Williams Village facilities and dining at campus restaurants. |
Everything above is covered by the optional fee of $180.14. Additionally, you will need a Buff One Card ($25 value) to activate the passes. This card will be available for purchase at the Campus Card Office after your arrival.
If you choose to opt out of the optional fees, only Campus Cash option will be available to you with the purchase of a Visitor/Guest Card ($5 value) at the Campus Card Office.

2. What is the SEVIS compliance fee?
It is a mandatory $22 fee charged to international students taking LSA courses for credit. This fee is not
applicable to Affiliates.
3. The Institute website mentions the CUIdentiKey, CULearn, MyCUInfo and the Buff One Card. Please explain these systems.
CUIdentiKey |
CUIdentiKey is your 'key' to CU Systems. It allows you to register for your courses and complete the enrollment process. You will use your IdentiKey to establish your CU login and password. This in turn enables you to access your CU e-mail account, CU computer labs, CU wireless networks, CULearn and MyCUInfo. |
CULearn |
CULearn is the University of Colorado's online course toolkit. You will use it to access all course information (syllabus, downloadable readings, online self-assessments) through each course's CULearn site. You will be enrolled automatically on the CULearn site of any course for which you register. Keep in mind that course sites go down six months after the course end date. Therefore, you must download any course materials (including the syllabus), that you wish to preserve prior to that time.
|
MyCUInfo |
MyCUInfo is a web portal that allows you to access campus news and information about your student status, including your class schedule, grades and drop/add status.
|
Buff One Card |
The Buff One Card is a card that you carry on your person as CU identification. It you elect the Bus Pass (an optional student fee), you present the Buff One Card in lieu of cash when you board any local bus. (Holders of the Bus Pass will also receive a discounted fare on the AB 'Skyride' bus back to the airport.) In addition, through the Campus Cash program, you may use a credit card to add cash to your Buff One card. This will enable you to use the Buff One card as a debit card for small-dollar campus transactions, e.g., printing in computer labs, photocopying at campus photocopy centers, doing laundry at Williams Village facilities and dining at campus restaurants. Obtain the Buff One card, for $25.00, after your arrival on campus.

4. What hours will housing check-in be available?
Specific details on housing check-in will be posted in early June.
5. If I have chosen not to pay optional fees, should I still purchase the Buff One card?
No. Even if you do not have a University of Colorado identification card, you can still check out books at Norlin library by presenting a hard copy of your course schedule at the circulation desk.
6. If I register for a course for no credit, can I still get a transcript showing that I took that course?
Yes, you can get an official CU transcript, but it will show that you received no credit for the course.
