South Asian Languages: Formal Approaches and Computational Resources

Description

Invited Speaker: Emily Manetta (University of Vermont)

The primary goal of this workshop is (1) to spur discussion of the role of corpora and computational resources (lexicons, PropBanks, taggers, treebanks) for formal linguistic research on South Asian Languages and, (2) to solicit feedback for one such resource: the currently under construction Hindi-Urdu Treebank (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1329068/Treebank-Hyderabad/treebank.html), which provides a multi-representational annotated corpus, one of the first of its kind. In addition to the invited talk and group discussion, the workshop will also include paper presentations and system demo. The detailed agenda will be available soon.
