Almeida Jacqueline Toribio

Almeida Jacqueline Toribio earned her PhD in Linguistics from Cornell University in 1993. She has held positions at the University of California, Santa Barbara and The Pennsylvania State University; she is currently Professor at the University of Texas, Austin. Her scholarship comprises structural and social concerns, investigating the ways in which linguistic facts of contact and rural language varieties can be brought to bear on issues in linguistic theorizing, as well examining the contributions of specific language behaviors to the understanding of the social configurations in which speakers find themselves. She has co-edited The Cambridge Handbook of Linguistic Code-Switching and a special issue of Bilingualism: Language and Cognition devoted to structural convergence.
