Marja-Leena Sorjonen is Professor of Finnish Language in the Department of Finnish, Finno-Ugrian and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Helsinki. Before moving to the Department of Finnish, she was Professor of Spoken Finnish in the Research Institute for the Languages of Finland. She is the author of Responding in Conversation: A Study of Response Particles in Finnish. She is also co-editor of Emotion in Interaction, and editor of Arjen asiointia. Keskusteluja Kelan tiskin äärellä. [Everyday Service Encounters: Interaction in Social Insurance Offices]. She has published numerous articles on grammar and responsive actions, as well as on grammar and affiliative/disaffiliative actions.
