Stefan Th. Gries

Stefan Th. Gries is Professor of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his MA and PhD degrees at the University of Hamburg, Germany in 1998 and 2000. Before coming to UCSB in 2005, he worked at the Department of Business Communication and Information Science of the University of Southern Denmark at Sønderborg and the Psychology Department of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. His major areas of research are quantitative corpus linguistics and cognitive/usage-based linguistics. Using statistical methods, he has worked on morphophonology, syntax, the syntax-lexis interface, semantics and corpus-linguistic methodology.
