Phonetic Theory

Description:
This course will cover the basics of phonetic theory, concentrating on acoustic phonetics and speech perception. As such, it will cover the fundamentals of digital signal processing, source-filter theory, and audition. Throughout the course an emphasis will be placed cross-linguistic research and a hands-on exploration of the theories discussed in class.
Prerequisites:
Students should have a basic familiarity with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and must dowload the most recent version of the Praat software for speech analysis.
