Today’s Use of the Arapaho Flag: Un-visible

By: Lisa Yawakia

Today the Arapaho Flag still exists with the Northern Arapahoe Tribe. However since a new symbol has been adopted it is a rarity to see the flag. Only a few members still present the flag in honor of past warriors.

It could be that the flag has long since been replaced by the Northern Arapaho logo and the usage for the Arapaho Flag is no longer felt needed. Do members still believe in the meaning of the flag? With so much effort and meaning put into the flag you would think that the flag would receive more recognition.

It is my hope that this “movement” shall never cease to exist. This world is always on the brink of war. We are at war with Terrorism today! We must know where we are coming from. We must know were we have been. We must remember were we are going. It is my belief now more than ever with so many of our youth enlisting we shall never forget who we are. I plan to enlist a few years after my children are older. I plan to make my children, my family, and people proud. I will not forget what I’m fighting for.

I seen the Arapaho Flag brought into the harbor during grand entry of the 7 th Annual Drug Elimination Pow-wow hosted by the Northern Arapahoe Tribal Housing. Presenting the color guard was Legion Post #84 of Arapaho, WY. Never Forget.
