Stones Peak, Mt Julian, and area between them, RMNP

(Hayden Gorge)

Arapaho

1. woxeihtoo ; 2. woxse’eihtoo

Translation of Arapaho

1. ‘bear's paw’ ; 2. ‘bear's foot’

Note

The Bear's Paw motif was very important in Arapaho decorative arts, and was connected to the mythological figure Whirlwind Woman and the creation of the earth.

Stones Peak, Mt. Julian, and the mountain spur between them were visualized as a bear's foot (in imitation of an important Arapaho decorative motif). One end of the area is visible here.
