Meaning of the Arapaho

Translated in old sources as 'Flint River'. The above Arapaho word contains the ending niicíe meaning 'river,' but the first part of the word is not recognizable. The modern word for 'flint' is wóosóo3.

The name is given in old word lists from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is not recognized today by Northern Arapahos. The orthography used for the transcriptions is problematic, so the exact form of the word is not know.
