Red-Headed Ducks and the Arapaho

In the origin myth of the Flat Pipe and the Creation of the Earth, the “Red-Head Duck” succeeds in bringing up the earth to create dry land (Dorsey, p. 197-98). The only two red-headed diving ducks in North America are the Common Redhead and the Canvasback, so one of these species is likely the one in question, if the bird is not simply mythological.
